Why the Baja Oasis Is The Perfect Destination For a Dirt Bike Riding Vacation
The Baja Oasis is the perfect destination for those looking to ride Baja. The Baja Oasis is located 24 miles south of Mexicali in the open desert. This makes it a perfect, unrestricted starting point for any Baja trip. It’s just far enough from town to ride endless off-road trails, but close enough that it doesn’t take hours to get there.
Most Baja enthusiasts start their rides in Tecate, when in fact the Baja Oasis is hours closer to Arizona, Nevada, and the eastern United States. Mexicali is the most eastern town on the Baja peninsula, making it closer to most states in the U.S.
Come Visit For Delicious Food
One of the biggest reasons to visit the Baja Oasis is food. Cook Gabby pours her heart and soul into every meal she makes. They are the only kitchen in Baja that makes a proper carne asada fry dish with real, graded cheese. You would think that dish would be more prevalent in Baja, but it’s actually an American dish. In the winter, they make a legendary pozole dish accompanied by mini tostadas and a handmade salsa. The signature breakfast plate is Juevos Rancheros with Chiliquiles on the side. This breakfast can be enjoyed with fresh coffee next to the river.
The largest attraction at the Baja Oasis is the geothermal phenomena. The largest geothermal plant in the world resides at the nearby Cierro Prieto Volcano, which is a fun beginner ride from the lodge. There’s also a large steam geyser stuffed in a canyon nearby. The Geyser can be reached with a 25-mile ride and a short hike. The last geothermal phenomena are multiple hot spring canyons. The most traveled is Guadalupe Canyon, which is a fun 45-mile ride from the lodge. Guadalupe Canyon is one of the most breathtaking rides one can take in Baja. After crossing the barren desert, you enter a canyon oasis with thousands of palm trees and water coming out of the mountains. Fortunately, this canyon is well-maintained, so riders can easily pull up and enjoy the handmade hot spring pools. You can camp overnight or return to the lodge for a fresh-cooked meal.
Safe and Secure Resort Location
The Baja Oasis has safe parking for large groups and a garage to store off-road toys. This is very unique for a lodge to have a garage for motorcycles and UTVs, and there really aren’t many other lodges in Baja that offer secure garage parking. The garage is stocked with tools, fluids, and tires in case off-roaders need to tune up their machines. After all, it’s an off-road destination, so why wouldn’t you have accommodations for that?
Another reason to visit this lodge is the new “street clothes” storage policy. Un-supported moto guests can now ship overnight clothing to San Diego and have it waiting in a clean storage container when they arrive. This really helps the riders with no chase truck. It allows these riders to save weight while they’re riding on the trail and still have a change of clothes when they show up.
Owner Justin Strong created a GPS master guide to help guests navigate to the lodge. Their team spends countless hours each season making new trails and making sure the existing routes are still good. This helps adventurers take all the guesswork out of their adventure. The GPS map is labeled with green, blue, and black to signify the level of difficulty. Owner, Justin, can also help your group with the perfect route for their adventure. No other lodge in Baja offers this service. They can also offer chase and guide service if needed.
A Perfect Destination For a Dirt Bike Riding Vacation
The ultimate reason to visit The Baja Oasis is the “Rip to the Rio” route. This route takes guests from the Tecate border to the lodge. It’s very unique because it passes through the Sierra Juarez pine forest, then to the desert floor. This 130-mile route can be ridden on singletrack or graded roads, depending on the group’s desire for adventure. Justin and Colton Udall created this trail, carving a singletrack route through the mountains and across the desert.
Most importantly, the Baja Oasis is a place where your group can relax and feel comfortable. There’s plenty of space to spread out between the 3 houses and the giant living room. They have lightning-fast wi-fi and a large TV to stream your favorite programs. If you call ahead, they can order most anything to make your stay more comfortable. With the savory menu, an open tip-based bar, and large bedrooms, it’s easy to see why groups are so comfortable at the lodge. They make it a no-brainer for Baja adventurers because they take all the guesswork out of your ride. With chase service, guide service, a detailed GPS guide, comfortable beds, and some of the best food in Baja, it should be your first choice. Log onto baja-oasis.com to start your next adventure.
