Self Guided Dirt Bike Ride in Baja California

We now offer self guided options for our lodge. This is for the Baja adventurer who doesn’t want the limitations of a tour. This ride options is for the type of person who’s looking for a little more adventure. The lodge can create a package tailored to your group’s needs.

Our trail crew works hard each season creating and maintaining our trail system, and they love to show it off. Tell us more about your group’s riding style and what they are looking to do. Then our staff will put together routes, food, fuel stops, and lodging for the group. This package takes the guesswork out of your ride.

If you’re looking for something aggressive, we recently finished work on our “Secret Passage Trail.” This trail was a dream route that owner Justin Strong found on an old map. They went out and couldn’t believe what they found: a perfect, scenic wash that bypassed the horrific race course routes. They sent a crew out to clean up a few sections, and now it’s rideable in both directions. It goes from San Felipe, or Mike’s Sky Ranch, to the Baja Oasis.

Looking for something a bit more mellow? Let us share our big bike routes that go from Tecate to the lodge. These routes ride a mixture of graded roads and highways. They are intended to be easily ridden by your average adventure biker. They are scenic, flowy, and will allow guests to arrive early and enjoy the riverfront lodge.

Our team will supply a GPS route with fuel and food stops pinned along the way. A custom route just for your group! Then call out just about anything you’d like us to supply at the lodge. Typically, bikes need 2-3 gallons a day, and riders will enjoy a cold beer or soda in the garage. So, naturally, we stock the garage with plenty of refreshments. Have a drink or snack preference? Let us know, and we’ll arrange to have plenty. Pre-order fuel for the motos and have it ready upon arrival. It’s nice to have fuel sitting in the garage so the group doesn’t have to stress about the next fuel stop. Just top the bikes off and close them in the garage, safe and sound.

Need chase but not necessarily a guide? Let the Baja Oasis chase van support your ride. We have a 15-passenger van and a 15-bike trailer that will definitely haul your crew anywhere they need to go. Add in a chase mechanic while you’re at it, so they can change air filters and prep bikes while you relax.

Baja is definitely a place where moto enthusiasts go seeking adventure. We understand that not everyone is looking for a structured, guided tour.  However, we also understand that our zone in Baja is raw and undiscovered. That’s why we created this package, so guests can traverse this undiscovered terrain without the guesswork. Plus, we want you to ride the good stuff so they keep coming back!

Don’t want to carry your overnight gear? We can arrange to ship your overnight clothing and essentials to the lodge ahead of time. We’ll have our staff clean and fold your laundry so it’s fresh each time you return. This makes it nice to ride unencumbered to the lodge. Extra weight changes the way a dirt bike handles and can make a rider work harder and get tired faster.

Before riding unsupported in Baja, there are a few details you’ll want to double-check on the bike. To start out, we suggest each bike has properly wedged run-flat tire inserts. For KTM’s, we recommend servicing the fuel system with a new in-tank filter and an in-line filter. Next, treat the electrical connectors with anti-corrosion spray, especially the ones behind the headlight. Check those rear wheel bearings while you’re at it, KTM is known for those going out at the worst time.. These are well-known fail points and can leave a bike stranded. On the Honda’s you’ll want to check the valves and shim as needed. Check the clutch cable for fraying as well. Typically, the Yamaha’s don’t need much, just inspect the clutch cable for fraying and ride them.

Riders should carry tools and extra parts. To start, we suggest bringing an extra clutch lever and shift lever. You can zip ty these to the radiator shroud, or inside the airbox to keep the weight off your body. For a Baja tool kit, you’ll want an 8-14mm socket set, 17mm wrench, a 27mm axle wrench, 8,10,12,13mm open wrenches, needle nose pliers, and an allen wrench set.

Once you’re packed and ready, grab some pesos at the border; this will help avoid bad conversion rates. Always be respectful when crossing the border, and don’t forget your current registration. They will make you turn around if you don’t have current registration. Remember to close ranchers’ gates and slow down as you pass. The last thing they want is your dust getting everywhere or their livestock spooked. A little respect in Baja can go a long way.

The Baja Oasis is a unique Baja gem, and we love showing it off to our guests. Whether it’s a self-supported ride from Tecate or a guided hot spring tour, book your ride this season, you won’t be disappointed. We have some of the most unique and diverse terrain in Baja to explore. Plus, our hot spring canyons are breathtaking and very unique.
